Hellerskie,

Today’s blog post was inspired by the Easter lunch me and family attended yesterday. We attend Filipino Community of Colorado event often. I’ve talked to some Pinay’s and one thing in common is that they have lots of questions and confusions what to do in life abroad.

I can only share what I’ve experience and all opinions are my own.

1.    You need to embrace each other’s food preference. Go! Minsan iisipin nya bakit may kanin lagi? Ikaw minsan iiisipin mo bakit lagi hamburger. Iba ang iba ang panlasa at iba iba ang hilig. Minsan kapag nais ng mister ko, hamburger, ginagawa kong burger steak mala Jolibee haha

2.    You need to explain to him why you support your family back in the Philipines. Good thing, my husband understands this part but not all of it. Philippine culture tend to depend a lot for those who are in “abroad” “ofw” Pero minsan di malaman ng mga Pinoy na ang buhay sa abroad ay normal lang.

3.    Fish sauce is like soysauce. Most Filipino food add fish sauce for taste. Even if most American hates the smell of fish sauce. Or mas mahirap magluto ng tuyo/daing or kahit anong dried fish. Kasi kailangan mo buksan lahat ng air vents at bintana para di mangamoy bahay mo hehe

4.    Filipino time is not on time. Most American’s are on time especially when comes to event. Most Filipinos are not on time, late lagi. So minsan dapat 30 minutes advance ang oras na palugid para dadating sila on time.

5.    Balikbayan boxes are boxes of gold. Most Filipinos love to receive free things, especially balikbayan boxes. Little they know the effort/time/money you spend just to send things. Or mga pabili pabili?

6.    Spending time with your other half’s family.

7.    Life is not about material things. There are so many stuff you can buy with your precious credit card here in the US. Sometimes you intend to buy things you don’t need. Don’t get me wrong once in a while, maganda magtreat sa sarili para Makita pinagpaguran sa dami ng trabaho. Pero hinay hinay lang sa gastos.

8.    Tissue/Toilet paper is their “tabo”. I fluflush mo ito.

9.    Not enough holidays. USA holiday is very stick. They have dates you can be off at work and days that you get jealous coz you can’t take day offs.

10.  Last but not the least. Dollars are not equal to one million pesos. Most Filipinos think if youre earning at least $60k a year, you’re rich, you can send money home all the time. That is true. Filipinos abroad have bills to pay, insurance to pay, mortgage to pay etc etc. Magtrabaho at magsumikap. Bow!

Cheers!

Pinay in Colorado.

Hellerskie!!

It's been a couple of weeks since I blog. Today, I want to share my love for Archery!

My husband started this hobby for himself and introduced it to me. Then our whole fam is involved. Even Alyza has her own bow and arrow. Nutmeg and Ayden usually hang out with us while we shoot.

It started even before the hype for hunger games archery is on.

These are our sets first bow and arrows we got at Rocky Mountain Specialty Store in Sheridan, Colorado.

There are so many stores around town and online but we choose local store. Sometimes we shoot at our backyard with our own target.

Hubby used to use compound bow and he switch to traditional bow. I eventually upgraded to long bow and until now i shoot it and love it!

I'll do an update inline with this quick blog post and share more when summer came back. Leave comment below if you like archery like we do :)

Hellerskie!!

Today is Alyza's 6th birthday. Until now I cant believe we have a kinder garden student, a princess, a baby doll and a bruha who is 6 years old!

I still remember the days when I was pregnant with her. I was so excited to give birth and we waited forever to see Alyza. I was 3 days overdue from my due date to give birth. One week before that I keep telling my husband that this is the day, this is the day that I will give birth but it never happened.

Here's a funny story I haven't share to everyone! When my water broke, I was peeing and didn't know that my water broke. I thought i was just doing my regular morning potty and then a big splash in the toilet happened. I know its TMI haha (Too Much Information)

After that I was bleeding and I called my hubby. Told him it is time and this time its for reals.

Tony rushed home from his work and we drove to the hospital (St Joseph in Dtown Denver). The cramps were intense that i thought my back will break. It was 27 hours of labor and Alyza still in my belly. In the 27 hours of labor, the nurse advise not to eat or anything kind of food intake. But I was not listening and took some hamburger bites from Tony's lunch. Our doctor said we need to do an emergency c section because its been 27 hours and I stop dilating. I remember crying and crying since I'm so scared for the procedure.

Alyza was born 2:19 pm on January 29, 2009 7.72 lbs 19". She is so perfect baby doll! She has changed our lives so much. We've been so blessed to have her and her brother.

Alyza been to many places since she born, shes a traveler. When she was 5 months she was in the Philippines, before she turned 1 she was in Vegas. When she was 1 1/2 New York and DC. Before she turned 2 we went to Mexico and New Mexico. Philippines again when she was 3. California when she was 3 1/2. 4 up to now we've been travelling all over Colorado. She's a trooper and tourist at the same time.

Here are some of her pics when she was 1 year old until now she's 6.

Big 6 Alyza!
