Dengue Fever – Philippines

I recently lost my nephew because of the deadly Dengue Fever. His name is Ze-Eb Nir, his 5 years old and he lives in the Philippines.

I want to raise awareness and raise fund for the children in the Philippines who suffered/died from Dengue Fever. I want to give the funds that I will raise here in go fund me to the children in Pasay City hospitals.

There are family who can’t afford blood transfusion, medical bills and medicine to cure Dengue Fever.

Dengue fever is spread by a mosquito called “Aedes” and if not treated it will cause death. Which what happened to my nephew. The symptoms are so common from other illness that we thought my nephew just had a regular fever.

According to Department of Health in the Philippines, as of September 2015, there are about 100,000 fever cases already.

If you can spare some $ to raise money and help the children of Pasay City Philippines who are suffering from Dengue, good karma will be on your way.

Every $ counts. Thank you in advance! Light and love!

Hellerskie!!!

I've been watching and reading news all about the balibayan boxes new taxes rules. I've been sending balikbayan boxes for almost 8 years now and there are cases wherein I thought that the Philippine customs inspect what are inside or steal things from the box before my family gets it.

There was an incident that the expected date of the balibayan box arrival was delayed for a month. Which is unusual but per customs they told me that it was a surprise inspection. Its not like I'm sending drugs to the Philippines, or any illegal stuff, its just bunch of chocolates and bath & body works lotion!!! haha

So per usual here are my two cents in line with the Philippine Balikbayan boxes and why the Philippine government/customs need to know what are the things inside balikbayan boxes.

BALIKBAYAN BOX...

1.  Have you ever been an OFW? (Overseas Filipino Worker)
- Most politician/government official in the Philippines haven't experience how to be an OFW. These official got their title, either the public loves them or just stupid Filipinos who voted for them and or if the Filipino voter got bribe with cash or a promise that they will deliver what the politician promise during election.

2. Ano ba laman ng Balikbayan box?
- Mahilig mga Pilipino sa mga gawa ng ibang bansa, kasi kadalasan kapag binasa mo saan gawa ang bagay ay "Made in China" amoy Amerika lang, amoy Canada, amoy Saudi or kung ano pang ibang bansa galing yan.
- Ano ba talaga kadalasan pinapadala sa pinas? - Chocolate, Herseys, tobleron, spam, sabon, bath and body works na lotion.

Hellerskie,

Today’s blog post was inspired by the Easter lunch me and family attended yesterday. We attend Filipino Community of Colorado event often. I’ve talked to some Pinay’s and one thing in common is that they have lots of questions and confusions what to do in life abroad.

I can only share what I’ve experience and all opinions are my own.

1.    You need to embrace each other’s food preference. Go! Minsan iisipin nya bakit may kanin lagi? Ikaw minsan iiisipin mo bakit lagi hamburger. Iba ang iba ang panlasa at iba iba ang hilig. Minsan kapag nais ng mister ko, hamburger, ginagawa kong burger steak mala Jolibee haha

2.    You need to explain to him why you support your family back in the Philipines. Good thing, my husband understands this part but not all of it. Philippine culture tend to depend a lot for those who are in “abroad” “ofw” Pero minsan di malaman ng mga Pinoy na ang buhay sa abroad ay normal lang.

3.    Fish sauce is like soysauce. Most Filipino food add fish sauce for taste. Even if most American hates the smell of fish sauce. Or mas mahirap magluto ng tuyo/daing or kahit anong dried fish. Kasi kailangan mo buksan lahat ng air vents at bintana para di mangamoy bahay mo hehe

4.    Filipino time is not on time. Most American’s are on time especially when comes to event. Most Filipinos are not on time, late lagi. So minsan dapat 30 minutes advance ang oras na palugid para dadating sila on time.

5.    Balikbayan boxes are boxes of gold. Most Filipinos love to receive free things, especially balikbayan boxes. Little they know the effort/time/money you spend just to send things. Or mga pabili pabili?

6.    Spending time with your other half’s family.

7.    Life is not about material things. There are so many stuff you can buy with your precious credit card here in the US. Sometimes you intend to buy things you don’t need. Don’t get me wrong once in a while, maganda magtreat sa sarili para Makita pinagpaguran sa dami ng trabaho. Pero hinay hinay lang sa gastos.

8.    Tissue/Toilet paper is their “tabo”. I fluflush mo ito.

9.    Not enough holidays. USA holiday is very stick. They have dates you can be off at work and days that you get jealous coz you can’t take day offs.

10.  Last but not the least. Dollars are not equal to one million pesos. Most Filipinos think if youre earning at least $60k a year, you’re rich, you can send money home all the time. That is true. Filipinos abroad have bills to pay, insurance to pay, mortgage to pay etc etc. Magtrabaho at magsumikap. Bow!

Cheers!

Pinay in Colorado.
