Hellerskie!!!!

It's first day of fall and everything seems to change in an instant. The weather is chilly in the mornings now and leaves are changing. These are my top five things me and my family love doing during the sweater weather!

1. RAKE LEAVES - its free if you have a yard that has a bunch of leaves fallen. or yo can go to a park wherein there are bunch of leaves that you can rake and pile it up. We let the kids jump in it and they have a blast!

2. PUMPKIN PATCH - we usually go to golden colorado wherein they have this pumpkin patch that has pancakes breakfast before the event do golden pumpkin hunt. Last year, our daughter found the golden pumpkin and she won target gift card :)

3. RIDE HAY RIDES - the best thing to do when you're in the pumpkin patch, the kids love the thrill of riding in the back of the truck filled with hay. no car seat needed, the truck drives about 2-5 mph. no need to worry, just enjoy the ride.

4. CARVE PUMPKINS - since we have pumpkins in the garden, we carved our pumpkin fresh from the garden. sometimes, we buy pumpkins too just to carve extra. don't forget to add candle and turn off the lights so the kids can enjoy. just make sure to remove the candle after :)

5. TAKE PICTURES - since fall is kinda weird here in denver wherein you don't know when will it snow, take lots of pictures. memories and print them! don't let them sit in your computer or phone. have a polaroid if you have one to take pics instant!

These are my top five things to do for fall and soon you will see the latest pics here in my blog. for now, check out last years photos in my flickr site :)

Hellerskie,

Today’s blog post was inspired by the Easter lunch me and family attended yesterday. We attend Filipino Community of Colorado event often. I’ve talked to some Pinay’s and one thing in common is that they have lots of questions and confusions what to do in life abroad.

I can only share what I’ve experience and all opinions are my own.

1.    You need to embrace each other’s food preference. Go! Minsan iisipin nya bakit may kanin lagi? Ikaw minsan iiisipin mo bakit lagi hamburger. Iba ang iba ang panlasa at iba iba ang hilig. Minsan kapag nais ng mister ko, hamburger, ginagawa kong burger steak mala Jolibee haha

2.    You need to explain to him why you support your family back in the Philipines. Good thing, my husband understands this part but not all of it. Philippine culture tend to depend a lot for those who are in “abroad” “ofw” Pero minsan di malaman ng mga Pinoy na ang buhay sa abroad ay normal lang.

3.    Fish sauce is like soysauce. Most Filipino food add fish sauce for taste. Even if most American hates the smell of fish sauce. Or mas mahirap magluto ng tuyo/daing or kahit anong dried fish. Kasi kailangan mo buksan lahat ng air vents at bintana para di mangamoy bahay mo hehe

4.    Filipino time is not on time. Most American’s are on time especially when comes to event. Most Filipinos are not on time, late lagi. So minsan dapat 30 minutes advance ang oras na palugid para dadating sila on time.

5.    Balikbayan boxes are boxes of gold. Most Filipinos love to receive free things, especially balikbayan boxes. Little they know the effort/time/money you spend just to send things. Or mga pabili pabili?

6.    Spending time with your other half’s family.

7.    Life is not about material things. There are so many stuff you can buy with your precious credit card here in the US. Sometimes you intend to buy things you don’t need. Don’t get me wrong once in a while, maganda magtreat sa sarili para Makita pinagpaguran sa dami ng trabaho. Pero hinay hinay lang sa gastos.

8.    Tissue/Toilet paper is their “tabo”. I fluflush mo ito.

9.    Not enough holidays. USA holiday is very stick. They have dates you can be off at work and days that you get jealous coz you can’t take day offs.

10.  Last but not the least. Dollars are not equal to one million pesos. Most Filipinos think if youre earning at least $60k a year, you’re rich, you can send money home all the time. That is true. Filipinos abroad have bills to pay, insurance to pay, mortgage to pay etc etc. Magtrabaho at magsumikap. Bow!

Cheers!

Pinay in Colorado.

Happy Chinese New Year!!! Kung Hei Fat Choi 2015!!!

Its been an emotional week and I'm trying to cheer up. I shared in my instagram @maryiangge about my nephew who passed away three days ago. His on on God's kingdom.

Four years ago, we stumbled upon the restaurant called "The Empress". We wanted to celebrate Chinese new year by going to the chinese resto and we end up celebrating bigger than we expected. The Empress had dragon dances and celebration that feels like I'm back in Asia. Its been four years now that we celebrate Chinese New Year here in Colorado.

Anyway, yesterday the news announce that there's gonna be a crazy snow storm here in Denver. We got lucky the snow storm arrived late in the afternoon today and we enjoyed our Chinese New Year's brunch.

The Empress has an amazing dim sums!!! There are carts going around the restaurant and the servers ask you what you want. Here's a pic of the cart :)

Tony's fav are the siomai and shrimp dumpling with cilantro.

Even Ayden love the siomai! By the way, mommy tip here. We bought a disposable placemat so he can eat in the table like how he eats at home. These to go placemats are perfect for restaurants or any where we eat out.

The Dragon Dance was awesome! This year 2015 is Ayden's first time to experience Chinese New Year!

Alyza had fun for sure :)

Even my mom in law did!

So am i!

The best part of this celebration is food!!!

Tea!!!

Dim sums!

Pecking Duck!

Fried Rice!

Dessert!

Delish food! Kung Hei Fat Choi 2015!

Hellerskie!!

Ayden turns one!

At the age of 30, I still can't believe I have a 5 years old little girl who's turning 6 soon and a little man who turns one today!

During my pregnancy me and Tony (also the rest of the fam) are excited to see Ayden. He is a blessing to us coz it took us almost 8 months to have him. i know we've been telling people that were not having another one after Alyza but in reality, me and my husband had a long conversation if we are having another one or not. We went to different pros and cons which is a smart parenting skill to have. (can we afford another baby?, can we give the same lifestyle with the second child?, how much college savings does the kids needs?, going back to work after giving birth?, who's gonna take care of the baby when we both go back to work? And yes we decided to have another one when Alyza turned 4.

It was s struggle to have another baby in my case. I almost give up since I was having trouble getting pregnant again, which is a surprise coz we have Alyza right away. We didnt announce it in facebook that i was pregnancy until my 2nd trimester came. My friend nessi, noticed Tony's instragam post that i look preggo and she didnt even tell me she just said "lola!" (our pet names haha)

here is the instagram photo:

Ofcourse our family knows I'm preggo before we announce it. We wanted to make sure that Ayden is healthy inside my tummy before we announce our blessing!

More blessing since he is a boy. A true answered prayer. We wanted a boy as our second child and it came true. We can't even explain how excited we are when we found out its a boy.

Last year 2014 at 9amish, I was in the labor and delivery and so anxious to give birth to our son. I know what I'm going though since I had Alyza in C Section. I hate the anesthesia and needle poking stuff. Which is weird coz I have 3 tattoos. haha

Not many people know that Ayden went through rough first 3 months as a new born. When i gave birth to him, on my 3rd day in the hospital, he didn't pass the oxygen test and his heart beat is not normal. He was in NICU for 2 days and when we got home from the hospital, we have a tube that connects to a home oxygen to help him breathe. If you zoom in to this picture you can see the tube that connects to his oxygen. Thank God my mom is in town to help me with household chores plus taking care of Ayden and Alyza while Tony still go to work regularly. It was the longest three months of our lives.

We didnt infrom everyone (except for family and close friends) about his status because we dont want people to have a pitty party. I'm sharing this experience right now to help parents like us what we have done to make him healthy and strong. Now, his 1 he is healthy as he can be. In fact Ayden's weight right now is the same weight of Alyza when she was 2. He surpass her sissy's weight.

The doctor came in the house every one Friday to check how his breathing is. We have an oxygen tank beside his crib, an oxygen to go whenever we go somewhere to make sure he breaths good. I admit its sad to carry an oxygen bag and a car seat without anybody noticing us. I dont like when people feel sad about our live. Makes me feel I didn't do my part when i was preggo with him. I will also confess that whenever i take and post pictures of him for the first 3 months, i removed the oxygen tank and any traces of the tube so people wont question us in line what is going on with him. My sis Dez asked me where is her oxygen when i post new pics in social media, i honestly told her i took a pic real quick and place back his oxygen.

There are times at night I almost give up and cry why him and what did i do wrong for him to suffer in this. Maybe my hormones are still mess up that time? we prayed during these times.

Here are the stuff we did to keep him healthy during his first 3 months in oxygen.
- literally monitor his heart beat (thank God for our insurance plan, most of the oxygen stuff is covered with insurance)
- make sure we write down every meal he takes
- monitor his sleep patterns
- since im breastfeeding, i watch what i eat and make sure it benefits him (i'll do another blog post about breastfeeding)
- check oxygen status, if the tank produces right amount of oxygen or not.

These are the only few things i can share and the other things are the stuff his pedia informed us to do. Again, every baby is different and every baby has different way of being a baby.

To sum up! The past year was the best year in our lives, Alyza learned to be a big sister, Nutmeg (our dog) learned to love and stopped being jealous to Ayden.

Here is the pics of Ayden's monthly growth. I'm so glad we took pics of him every month. This is a good tip for future parents out there. We did the same thing with Alyza. We love how we can look back at the pics and enjoy how our kids grow up to be an amazing person!!!!

I'll do another blog post about our celebration tonight :)
